Robustness of GHG-emissions Verification and Certification of Biofuels - A Case Study of Selected SAF Supply Chains and Policies
Short Introductive summary
This study is a follow-up to a previous IEA Bioenergy Task 39 study: Improvement opportunities for policies and certification schemes promoting sustainable biofuels with low GHG emissions Part 1: A Review of Policy Frameworks”. Part 2 identifies sensitivities related to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions across a range of biofuel policy frameworks and formulates opportunities to enhance the robustness of verification and certification throughout the biofuel supply chain. The recommendations are intended for policymakers, certification schemes, and industry. While Part 1 focuses on a wide range of biofuels and policies, Part 2 focuses particularly on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF); however, the results are generally also applicable to a broader range of biofuels. This research is carried out within Task 39 of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP). It is a collaborative effort involving Austria, Brazil, Germany, and the Netherlands, with extensive contributions from other Task 39 participants.
