Generating Equity, Nurturing Diversity, Energising Resilience for Power Against Energy Poverty
Short Introductive summary
Energy poverty has been exacerbated in Europe over the last two years due to multiple crises, such as the post pandemic economic crisis, geopolitical tensions or extreme weather events affecting the energy markets. While rising energy prices and generalised inflation have increased households’ vulnerability to energy poverty, other causes of energy poverty, such as poor energy performance of buildings or systemic and structural income inequalities, also need to be considered and addressed. In reaction to recent crises, the EU has provided several strategies and programmes such as the Green Deal, the European Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) and the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), to phase out the dependency on fossil fuels, to save energy, scale up renewables and tackle energy poverty through medium- and long-term measures. The overall objective of the GENDER4POWER project is fundamentally to improve the living conditions, including financial stability, health, well-being, and energy efficiency of buildings (and households) affected by energy poverty.

Utku Ege Birgi is a Project Manager at WIP Renewable Energies based in Munich. He specialises in biomass-to-energy processes and carbon capture technologies, with also an interest in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, and gender aspects.
