Energy is the lifeblood of economic and social development, and its demand rises with increasing population growth, industrialization, and urbanization. The limited and uneven availability of fossil-based energy sources, along with their socioeconomic and environmental impacts, underscores the need to explore alternative and affordable energy sources. In this context, biofuels derived from non-edible and inexpensive feedstocks are becoming a global concern, with tropical fruit waste biomass being an excellent yet overlooked feedstock for decades. Therefore, the objective of this study is to produce and optimize biodiesel with oil obtained from mango processing waste using sulfuric acid catalyst.

Presenter's biography

I am a professor and the leader of the Reaction Engineering and Catalysis group at NMBU (Norway). My work focuses on the valorization of waste biomass. My work is also related to the development and application of catalysts, kinetics and processing modeling as well as techno-economic assessments.
