Effects of Torrefaction Treatment on the Properties Of Bio-Coke as a Potential Coal-Coke Substitute

Short Introductive summary

Fossils fuels is non-renewable energy that have been used for million years. Its prolonged used can cause environmental problems and also depletion of sources in future. As an alternative, biomass energy is a promising tools. Bio-coke, a new solid biofuels made from biomass waste by densification technique is expected to be a suitable products as coal coke substitute in iron and steel industry. Although bio-coke has high density and good mechanical strength, its calorific value is low. By using torrefaction treatment, the fuel properties of bio-coke can be improved. Present study use green tea residue as raw materials. Torrefaction pre-treatment (TBIC) and post-treatment (BICT) samples are prepared with various temperature (523, 573, 623, 673 [K]). As results, TBIC has higher density than BICT but lower mechanical compressive strength (MCS) and calorific value. Further results will be discussed.
