Dissolving Pulp from Sustainable Indian Energy Crops

Short Introductive summary

Most of the dissolving pulp for textile industry is generally produced from woody biomass which is more carbon intensive and goes against the principle of net zero principles of those industrial segments. The new trend is to use lignocellulosic agri-residues or dedicated energy crops grown on marginal or non-food crop growing lands to balance the overall carbon footprint to lower levels. AM Green and Chempolis’ have together created a value chain from sustainable growing/aggregating such agri-residue based raw material for dissolving pulp production by combining the expertise from both companies. Our patented organosolve fractionation process coupled with optimised bleaching could produce high quality dissolving pulp suitable to textile applications.

Presenter's biography

Dr.SSV Ramakumar is currently the Chief Technology officer and Executive Vice President of AM Green- a company promoted by Greenko. In his current assignment, he is responsible for technology scouting, due diligence and adoption of various green technologies that will transform the company's journey from green electrons to green molecules. He is also a member of the management committee (Board) of AM green, heading the subcommittee on technology & innovation. Previously, Dr. Ramakumar has been Director, (R&D) on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., from Feb.2017- July 2023.
