Short Introductive summary

The present work details the outcomes of an extensive experimental campaign conducted within the framework of the BioPhenom European project, aimed at advancing sustainable production of bio-based phenolic compounds. This study reports on the principal outcomes of exploratory fluidized-bed fast pyrolysis experiments conducted at 400, 500, and 600 °C using lignin-rich olive stone (OS) residues as the feedstock for the production of phenol-rich bio-oils. Pursuing the aim to produce phenol-rich bio-oils from lignin-rich olive stone residues, the catalytic performance of basic metal oxides was systematically investigated, varying both the temperatures and the weight hourly space velocity (WHSV). Specifically, a dolomite catalyst derived from natural dolomite rock - chosen for its low cost, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly nature - was employed, proving to play a pivotal role in steering the product distribution toward the desired outcome.

Presenter's biography

He holds a master's degree in Industrial Chemical Science and Technology at Federico II in Naples. He focused on the SEG process and CO2 capture by steel-making slag. He is currently a research fellow at STEMS-CNR in Naples, focusing on biomass thermochemical processes and modeling syngas upgrading.
