Short Introductive summary

IEA Bioenergy Task 40’s Regional Transition 2.0 project aims to demonstrate that regionalization and commoditization strategies for bioenergy are complementary drivers of the energy transition, and that supply chain length is not a reliable measure of sustainability performance. In five case studies, experts from IEA Bioenergy Task 40 explored the strengths and weaknesses of both regionalization and commoditization strategies for selected bio-based supply chains in Austria, Germany, Sweden, the US, and the North Sea region. The case studies range from short, local biogas energy communities to long, commoditized supply chains of advanced biofuels.

Presenter's biography

Dr. Ric Hoefnagels is an Assistant Professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. His research focuses on biobased economy projects, specifically examining biomass supply, demand, and trade within emerging markets. He is the Dutch NTL of IEA Bioenergy Task 40.
