Sustainable forestry in Finland: The perspective of Forest Owners
Short Introductive summary
Approximately 75 percent of Finland’s land area is covered by forest, making it the most forested country in Europe relative to its area. There are also over half a million private forest owners in Finland. The logging revenues from the forests of South Savo have been the highest in Finland when examined by region. South Savo is a region in eastern Finland. The vitality, growth and profitability of forests are promoted through sustainable forest management. The main stages of this study were to conduct a survey of forest owners focusing on South Savo region, and to process the survey results into an easily understandable format. The main purpose was to determine forest owners’ interest and opinions in the areas of sustainable forestry.

Presenter's biography
Jarno Föhr is a post-doctoral researcher in the Laboratory of bioenergy at LUT University in Finland. His current goal is to produce information on sustainable forestry and the multiple uses of forests. He is particularly interested in sorting out the preferences of forest owners.
