Short Introductive summary

Processing bio-based raw materials and various side streams into valuable products is a crucial step towards a more sustainable future. Companies are increasingly interested in transitioning to raw materials that are either derived from or inspired by nature. However, the limited availability of forest resources constrains growth opportunities for the forest industries. Additionally, the burning of biomass during the pulping process emits biogenic CO2. To significantly enhance resource efficiency and increase the value derived from wood, it is essential to revise the chemical processes and unit operations used in pulping. This approach can generate new, unpredictable business opportunities based on sustainable raw materials, production methods, and products. The Emission Free Pulping program represents a significant leap towards sustainability and aims to: • Improve energy efficiency • Enhance the efficiency of wood usage and conversion into products • Achieve emission-free pulping, particularly by eliminating CO2 emissions from chemical pulping • Significantly reduce water usage in the processes • Increase the product yield of wood material used for pulping from approximately 50%
