Accelerate Green Chemicals Production in Europe: From Demand Mandates to Supply Incentives
Short Introductive summary
Biomass is one of the few possible sources of carbon for sustainable manufacturing. The ironic fact is that European and national energy policies discouraged and even blocked the development of the bio-based chemicals industry. The current use of bio-based carbon for energy does not contribute to achieving strategic goals, while the use of bio-based carbon for base chemicals would. We will show two case studies of how this happens, of how healthy bio-based business cases are affected and what needs to be changed. We need a green & sustainable base chemicals industry right now to make sure we have a European manufacturing industry in the future.
