Emissions from Small-scale Biomass Appliances during Real-LIFE Operation

Short Introductive summary

Small-scale wood combustion appliances are frequently used worldwide and ensure a comfortable climate in the rooms where they are installed. These furnaces are usually tested and evaluated in a type test where emission behavior is determined under optimum operational conditions. Neither the ignition phases, partial load operation nor operation at excessive load are considered in such tests. This deficit was filled in the recently created Real-LIFE test protocol. For this purpose, the procedure was defined, validated on two log wood stoves as part of a round robin test, and finally applied to eleven wood fueled small-scale appliances.

Claudia Schön studied environmental engineering at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. She works at the department of Solid Biofuels at the Technology and Support Centre with main focus on emission measurement and emisson reduction from biomass combustion using different fuel assortments.
