Biomethanol Synthesis from Biomass Syngas with an Innovative Lta-Zeolite Membrane Reactor
Short Introductive summary
In the presented work, a novel membrane reactor (MR) based on LTA zeolite was tested for methanol (CH3OH) synthesis starting from biomass gasification syngas enriched in H2 to meet the stoichiometric H2/COx ratio. The membrane was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and is characterized by an ordered microporous structure (3 – 5 Å) to selectively remove the water produced during methanol synthesis. The selective removal of one of the reaction products represents the strength of MR because it allows the system to overcome the limit imposed by the chemical equilibrium, pushing the reaction towards the products. This is reflected in the methanol yield, which in the MR is higher compared to conventional fixed-bed reactors.
