Biomass and waste combustion as sustainable strategy for decarbonization

A Novel Approach to Negative Emissions: Integrating BECCS with Membrane-Based Direct Air Capture

Short Introductive summary

The aim of this study was to perform a comparative analysis and determine the operating characteristics of a hybrid BECCS/DAC system based on membrane separation. The analyses enabled the evaluation of membrane separation for CO2 capture from a biomass-fired power unit. Additionally, the possibility of blending flue gas with atmospheric air was assessed to improve DAC process efficiency. The feed gas flow can be flexibly adjusted, affecting the system’s power demand and allowing the reduction of its operational inertia.
