Promoting Circular Economy via Bioproduct Synthesis Using Cell Factories and Geothermal Water-GeoAlganery
Short Introductive summary
GeoAlganery is a transnational project developing an integrated circular biorefinery concept that uses geothermal water as a renewable cultivation medium for Spirulina and Ulva. Bringing together partners from the Czech Republic, Türkiye, and Indonesia under the Southeast Asia–Europe Joint Funding Scheme (JFS), the project establishes a cross-regional platform for geothermal-assisted algal bioprocessing. By combining geothermal resource utilization, green extraction technologies (supercritical fluid extraction and countercurrent chromatography), and zero-waste biomass valorization, GeoAlganery targets the sustainable production of high-value compounds, including phycocyanin, carotenoids, lipids, and ulvan-based biopolymers, while converting residual biomass into biofuels, bioplastics, and biofertilizers. The project aims to advance from TRL 2 to TRL 6, laying the foundation for scalable geothermal-driven algal biorefineries within a circular bioeconomy.

Young researcher at the Laboratory of Algal Biotechnology, Centre Algatech, MBU (CAS), developing innovative algal biorefineries. She integrates optimized cultivation with high-performance countercurrent chromatography to create sustainable value chains for high-demand bio-based products.
