Biography

Dr. Sangita Kasture is working as Scientist 'G' /Adviser in Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India and heading of Bioenergy Division. Recently she has also served as Director General of National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram and also spearheaded Small Hydro Power Programme in the Ministry. Dr. Sangita is a pivotal figure in advancing India's National Bioenergy Program under MNRE, harnessing biogenic resources for clean energy generation, promoting renewable power, clean cooking, and sustainable transport fuels. This National Bioenergy Programme provides Financial Assistance for setting up of Bioenergy projects in the country in Waste to Energy, Biomass to Power and Biogas Area. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, and has conducted postdoctoral research in Biocatalysis in Poland and Sweden. Formerly she headed the Energy and Environment Division in Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, where she drove innovations in Bioenergy, Environmental Biotechnology, and Forest Biotechnology, crucial for climate change mitigation and circular economy initiatives. She has been integral to the multilateral Mission Innovation program, shaping national R&D strategies for Waste to Value, Advanced Biofuels including launch if Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Integrated Bioenergy Mission. Biodegradable Plastics, Carbon Capture and Utilization, and Bioremediation. Her leadership in establishing Centers of Excellence, Public-Private Partnerships, and a Clean Energy Incubator has fostered numerous startups and technology advancements.
