Biography
Dr Santanu Gupta is a visionary energy leader with over 36 years’ experience in oil refining and marketing, renewable energy, biofuels, nuclear energy, green hydrogen, and waste-to-energy. As former Executive Director at Indian Oil, he led India’s energy transition, pioneering national programmes such as Ethanol Blending, Biodiesel, SATAT (CBG), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and waste-to-energy initiatives, while overseeing sustainable development strategies. As Member Secretary of the Energy Transition Advisory Committee (Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India), he developed decarbonisation strategies for the transport, aviation, and marine sectors. He also carried out pioneering work on converting municipal waste into biomethane to support the Swachh Bharat Mission and the development of sustainable cities. Dr Gupta has a proven track record in reducing carbon footprints, optimising supply chains, and driving innovative energy solutions within a $100 billion organisation. Widely travelled across the globe, he has represented India at key meetings on bioenergy, energy transition, and net zero strategies in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
